Electrical Principles
The Brief:
This title provides foundation learning for Apprentice Electricians. It needed to be approachable for a younger, mostly male, non-academic cohort, reflect the practical nature of the content, and, be a little bit cool.
The Design Solution:
Crafting a neon sign out of the title connotes the idea of electricity. A simple yet impactful design, energised by a metallic foil finish.

The author is known for his friendly writing style, and I wanted to replicate a similar tone throughout the design. Internally, the pedagogy needed to be displayed in a way that was sound, organised and easy to follow. A range of worked examples and full colour illustrations make the basic principles easier to understand.

Electrical Principles was the winner of the Best Designed Tertiary/ Further Education Book Award at the 2013 Australian Book Design Awards. It was a finalist in the Cover of the Year category, and proved to be a best-seller.
